London Ski Show Sees 20% Jump In Visitor Numbers

Published : 24-Nov-2016 11:19

The London Ski & Snowboard Show 2016 last month defied the declining trend of ski shows around the world and reported a 20% increase in visitors compared to 2015, say its organisers

The London show, now the only major ski and snowboarding show left in the UK, was staged at Battersea Evolution, Battersea Park at the end of October. The Show, which organisers prefer to describe as an "alpine festival" attracted 30,569 visitors over four days, with 56% visiting the event for the very first time.

Last year, when the show moved from its long time home at London Olympia, there was a significant drop in attendees, continuing a long term trend. However this year's show was widely praised for having a better atmosphere and layout. It also moved back in to the English October half term holiday period and everyone attending got a free subscription to The Telegraph's ski magazine, as they currently organise the show.

It is not clear if cancelling the northern show in Manchester meant that more people visited from northern Britain who would previously have gone to that one.

85% of visitors asked said they'd come back in 2017.

Family-friendly activities at the show included Crystal Ski Holidays' Ice Rink sparkled in the outdoor space, Kidzania London gave children the chance to live out their future careers, there were rider demos and even Santa Claus made a special visit.

Other new attractions included the University Downtown Throwdown Rail Jam, the Eis Haus real ice bar and relaxed alpine dining within The Lodge – a dedicated, chalet bar within the show's main hall. Visitors had the chance to research snow-based holidays, as well as purchase a wide range of ski and snowboarding products.

Lindsey Guy, Group Show Manager, Telegraph Events, commented: "Immediately after the event last year, we began working on changes to develop the show's offering, based on the feedback we received from visitors and the industry. This included more family activities and an increased investment in marketing, including TV advertising. These measures and the team's incredible effort have made this year's show our most successful yet, and I look forward to improving even further in 2017!"

The Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show 2017 will take place during half-term on 26 - 29 October, at Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park.
