Some Snowfall High in the Alps

There has been a light covering of snow high up in the Alps over the past 24 hours.
Although it's not a lot, the fresh snowfall has at least raised hopes of a change in the weather after months of predominantly warm weather to high altitudes with all snow cover melting from most Alpine glaciers, temporarily shutting down all summer skiing operations.

Snowy (very snowy) mountains in Antillanca, Chile.
The Southern Hemisphere is experiencing strong mid-winter conditions, with Chile now holding the world's deepest snow base at 3.2 m/10 feet at Corralco.
For the first time in over a decade, no outdoor lift-served ski areas are operating in the Northern Hemisphere, as prolonged summer heat has forced closures at all remaining centres including Italy's Passo Stelvio.

Chile's Portillo Extends Season After Most Snowfall in 50 Years

The famous South American ski resort of Portillo in Chile has announced a two week extension of its 2026 season to Oct. 11, pushing back its original late September closing date.
The centre says the move is thanks to its biggest snowfall in 50 years, accumulating over 8 metres (25 feet) of snow since July 14.

Iglu Ski Raises £700 for Disability Snowsport UK in Triathlon Success

[b]Last weekend, a team from Iglu Ski took part in the 10th Superheroes Triathlon to raise money for Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK).
The team raised in excess of £700, which will enable 15 disabled adults or children to learn to ski at an indoor slope in the UK, bringing life-changing confidence, freedom and fun.

Chemmy Alcott suffers collapsed lung after Lake Annecy dive

[b]Former British ski racer and Ski Sunday presenter Chemmy Alcott has suffered a collapsed lung after misjudging a dive into Lake Annecy in France.
The 44-year-old was on holiday in the Alps with her family. After some time in Morzine, she moved on to Annecy, where she attempted a front flip from a five-metre diving platform into the lake.
