Skiing

Ruka features the Ruka Mountain, with a vertical drop of 490 meters and a skiable area of approximately 29 kilometers. Notable pistes include the Ruka Slalom and the Kumpu, while the Ruka Express and the Tuolppio lifts provide easy access to various slopes.

There are a variety of pistes to suit all levels of skier ability, from Beginner to Expert.

Snowboarding

Snowboarders can enjoy Ruka's terrain parks, including the Ruka Park, which offers a range of features for all skill levels. The park is well-maintained and ideal for both beginners and seasoned riders.

How to get there

 By Air

The nearest airport to Ruka is Kuuasamo, 28 minutes drive away.

Rovaniemi airport is also within three hours drive.

Kuuasamo is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.

Ruka is easily accessible via Kuusamo Airport, located about 25 kilometers from the resort. Regular flights connect from major cities, and car rentals or shuttle services are available for convenient travel.

The 22 ski lifts are able to uplift 20,900 skiers and snowboarders every hour.

Snow Making

Snow-making is available, on 19km of ski runs, with 100 snow cannons.

Season Dates

When is Ruka open?

We don't currently have confirmed season dates, but hope to soon.

Usual opening is mid October (Opening date depends on cold enough weather for snowmaking. Normally earliest non-glacier resort in northern hemisphere to open.), and usual closing is Mid June (Closing date depends on cold enough weather for stock piled snow to last. Normally last non-glacier resort in northern hemisphere to close.).
