As J2Ski.com forecast, a major winter storm is pounding the central Andes, producing exceptional snowfall for the ski slopes of Chile and Argentina and prompting authorities to close key access routes to Chile's ski resorts ahead of worsening conditions. Early totals indicate the system could be one of the region's largest in years, with projections suggesting up to 3 m (10 ft) of accumulation in some areas by Monday.

Jet2 Launch New Flight Route from Stansted To Innsbruck This Winter

[b]Jet2.com has added a new ski route for Winter 26/27, with flights to Innsbruck now on sale from London Stansted. The weekly Saturday service will operate from 19 December through 10 April 2027.
The launch expands Jet2.com's Winter 26/27 ski offering from London Stansted, which already includes Chambery, Geneva, Grenoble and Salzburg. Innsbruck provides quick access to numerous major resorts, with ski slopes located close to the airport itself. From the Tyrolean capital, travellers can reach the Nordkette ski area in around 20 minutes, one of more than a dozen resorts covered by the Innsbruck CityPlus pass. Further afield, options include Seefeld, Mayrhofen, St Anton, the Stubai Glacier and many others.

Delivered by the Government and Higherin, the annual list highlights England's leading apprenticeship employers, assessing programme quality, commitment to diversity and inclusion, apprentice outcomes, and authentic peer‑to‑peer feedback from apprentices themselves.

€53m Upgrades at Norway's Northerly Narvik To Be Completed in 2027 Ahead of World Champs

Major upgrades at Narvikfjellet, the Arctic‑coast ski area in northern Norway, are moving toward completion for the 2026–27 season as the resort prepares to host the 2029 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships. The €53 million (approx. NOK 720 million) investment covers a full modernisation of lifts, slopes, race infrastructure and snowmaking, forming one of Scandinavia's largest ski‑area redevelopment projects.

Snow has arrived in the southern hemisphere, particularly in New Zealand with up to 1 metre bases being reported, and Australian centres also reopening. Half-a-dozen ski areas remain open in the northern hemisphere.

Five Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympians, including history-making gold medallists Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale, headline the GB Snowsport Moguls, Ski Cross, and Snowboard Cross World Cup squads for the 2026/27 season.
In Snowboard Cross, Max Vardy once again joins Bankes and Nightingale in a three-athlete World Cup team that will seek to build on its history-making accomplishments in the Milan-Cortina cycle, which included a 2023 World Championships title, multiple Crystal Globes for Bankes, and the storied gold-medal secured in the Team event at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

IOC Approve New Ski & Snowboard Events For 2030 Winter Olympics

The IOC has announced new events to be included in the upcoming Alpes 2030 Olympic Winter Games set to take place in The French Alps and also a reprieve for some of the events that had been threatened with the axe.
Meeting today, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB), carried out a discipline and event review. As part of the review, it was decided that freeride (ski and snowboard) and synchro9 (figure skating) athletes will feature for the first time on an Olympic stage.

Planned Preston Dry Ski Slope secures funding

[b]Plans for a new dry ski slope in Preston are moving closer as developers have confirmed they have secured funding for the project.
The ski slope would be part of the proposed Phoenix Park leisure complex on the banks of the River Ribble, on the site of the existing Trax Off Road Motorsport centre.

Australian Centres Re-Open After Snow Arrives

Australian ski areas that had been forced to close shortly after opening for their 2026 seasons a month ago by mild, dry conditions have reopened after a multi-day snowstorm finally arrived.
"What a difference a day can make on the mountain! Hotham woke to a storm total of 22cm of natural snowfall, and counting, with cold temperatures helping get the snow guns firing to match Mother Nature's wintry offering. This provided the ideal backdrop to get skiing and boarding returning to Hotham today," a resort spokesperson at one of the closed centres said.

K2 Skier Conquers Another 8,000m+ Himalayan Peak With 4,000m+ Vert Ski Descent

Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel, known for the first ski descent of K2, has completed the first continuous, oxygen‑free ski descent of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) in the Himalayas. The achievement closes his decade‑long Pakistan Project and marks the first time anyone has skied an unbroken line from the summit to the end of snow conditions on the mountain.

Double Gondola Delight For Montgenèvre

Montgenèvre, which sits on the Italian border and is part of the huge Milky Way circuit, has confirmed a major lift upgrade for winter 2026–2027. It has announced that the long‑serving Chalvet double chairlift, which dates back to 1985, will be replaced by two modern installations designed to deliver faster, more comfortable access from the village to the top of the Chalvet sector.
