Snow In The Alps
Snow In The Alps

There's been fresh snow down to around 1500m across the Alps in the past 24 hours.
Resorts including Livigno (pictured above) and Obergurgl, both around 1800m, reported up to 10cm of snow at resort level.
The Pitztal glacier, Austria's highest ski centre and one of six glacier areas already open for the season in the country, issued a powder alarm when it got 21cm of snow in 24 hours.
Elsewhere in Europe Ruka in Lapland has opened for is 16-017 season this morning using stockpiled snow recycled from last winter.
Snowfall at this time of year is completely normal and does not unfortunately mean a good snowy winter is coming. Two years ago, almost to the day, the Pitztal Glacier reported a 40cm snowfall on October 11th 2014 before one of the warmest autumn and Christmas periods for decades developed.
But this winter it may go the other way!
