What does "no recent snow report" mean...

This is a common question, particularly at this time of year (see below).Your report says 'no recent snow report in X'. Does this mean that the predicted snow never arrives? I'm confused!
It simply means that we don't have a current report, from someone actually in X. During the season, the vast majority of ski areas report their snow depths and conditions on a daily basis - those are our "Snow Reports".
But, as mentioned in this morning's snow mail...
J2Ski's Snow Mail wrote:... as usual at this time of year, the snow reports from resorts are somewhat sporadic; most resorts are not yet fully-staffed and only a few are reliably reporting snow depths.
Most winters see the majority of resorts reporting daily by mid-December; with the early snows this year, we'd expect them to be reporting earlier... or, at least, when the resort staff have finished getting first tracks themselves! 8)
