1.5m/5 Feet Of New Snow at Jackson Hole

Published : 06-Dec-2016 12:14

Jackson Hole (pictured above yesterday) has reported 59 inches (1.49.9m) of snow has fallen there in the past nine days, with 43cm (17 inches) of that in the last 24 hours.

It's one of the big beneficiaries of what has now become a snowy fortnight in North America, with still more snow in the forecast.

The snowfall is widely spread too. Although the really big numbers for snowfall are as you would expect coming from the Western side of the continent, there's been significant snowfall in the East too, so much so that Mont Ste Anne in Quebec is declaring its opening 'historic' for the amount of snow fallen, with steep terrain areas not normally open until the New Year opening this weekend.

Resorts like Stowe in Vermont reported 20 inches of snow over the weekend and there was even 20cm/8 inches in the last 24 hours at Terry Peak in North Dakota.

Whistler, which reported 2m of snow in its first week of operations, says it's is going to start Heliski operations far earlier than usual due to the great early season conditions there.

There has also been widespread media coverage of heavy snow on Mauna Kea in Hawaii where up to 60cm of snow was reported at the weekend.
