Flaine

Flaine is a premier ski resort in the French Alps, known for its extensive ski area and reliable snow. It offers a variety of slopes for all skill levels amidst breathtaking mountain scenery.

 Summary

Flaine boasts over 140 kilometers of pistes, catering to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. The resort is part of the Grand Massif ski area, which includes the nearby resorts of Les Carroz, Morillon, and Samoens.

The ski area of Flaine is in the French Alps at an altitude of 1,600m, with 140km of marked runs.

Flaine is part of the Grand Massif ski area with access to 265km of downhill skiing, with 351 marked pistes, served by a total of 78 ski lifts. In addition to the skiing in Flaine itself (140km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Grand Massif ski resorts of Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoëns and Sixt Fer à Cheval.

The ski resort itself is at 1,600m, so skiing or boarding back to the resort is usually possible. With ski lifts as high as 2,500m, snow cover is generally reliable.

The longest possible descent in Flaine is 14km long and the most difficult run is the 'Styx'.

Skiing

The resort's elevation reaches 2,500 meters at the summit, with a vertical drop of 1,000 meters. Notable pistes include the long and scenic 'Les Grandes Platières' and the challenging 'Combe de Vernant', accessed by efficient lifts like the 'Grands Vans' and 'Télécabine de Flaine'.

How to get there

 By Air

The nearest airport to Flaine is Geneva, 53 minutes drive away.

Annecy, Chambery, Sion, Grenoble, Lyon St-Exupéry, Lyon Bron, Berne and Turin Caselle airports are all within three hours drive.

Geneva is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.

Flaine is accessible via Geneva Airport, approximately 70 kilometers away, with good transfer options available. The resort is well-connected by road, making it easy to reach by car or shuttle services.

The 26 ski lifts are able to uplift 32,000 skiers and snowboarders every hour.

Snow-making is available, on 10km of ski runs, with 100 snow cannons.

When is Flaine open?

Usual opening is late December, and usual closing is Late April.
